Texas motor vehicle accident claims 1 life

On Behalf of | Mar 19, 2024 | Wrongful Death |

An individual was killed in Texas’s Panola County after the motor vehicle they were in crashed into another automobile. Authorities arrived on the scene of the Friday accident to find a deceased individual. It was not immediately clear what caused the crash.

How the automobile crash happened

The recent Texas accident occurred along U.S. Highway 59. According to police, two motor vehicles collided, and at least one of the cars flipped over. One individual suffered fatal injuries.

Authorities shut down the highway immediately after the accident to allow space for a medical service helicopter. Troopers and deputies from the sheriff’s office were at the accident scene. Emergency medical services and volunteer firefighters also showed up at the crash scene.

Legal recourse available following the car accident

Authorities through their investigation may discover that an individual other than the deceased party caused the accident due to engaging in negligent driving. Examples of negligent driving include driving too quickly for road conditions or driving while distracted, such as texting while driving. In this situation, the surviving loved ones of the deceased individual may choose to file a wrongful death claim against the reportedly at-fault driver, seeking the reimbursement of monetary damages sustained in the crash.

Liability must be established before the Texas civil court hearing the case for the wrongful death claim to be adjudicated. In a successfully litigated case, the surviving family members of the deceased individual may receive monetary damages to cover the deceased person’s funeral costs. A damage award may also help cover the loss of support for this individual’s surviving dependents.
